The trail of M&Ms ended outside of an abandoned coal mining cave. Sam glanced around to make sure they weren't being watched and then helped Ben slip inside before slipping inside himself. It was pitch black inside and Sam pulled a flashlight from his jacket pocket, switching it on and surveying their surroundings. "This way" he whispered to Ben, pointing with the light.
He and Ben moved silently down the narrow passageway, straining their ears to hear if the Wendigo was anywhere near them. But they reached the end of the passage undisturbed and were met with the sight of Dean and Hayley, both unconscious and banged up, hanging by their wrists from the ceiling. Ben ran for Hayley and Sam hurried to Dean. "Dean, come on..." He gripped his brother by the front of his jacket, shaking him slightly. "Hayley, wake up..." Ben touched his sister's face gently.

Dean's eyes fluttered open weakly and he tried to take in his surroundings, orienting himself to what was going on. Oh yeah...he had been grabbed by that freaking monster. Now he really wanted to kill it. He let out a soft groan as Sam sliced through the ropes around his aching wrists and helped him hobble over to the side of the cave to sit down and rest. "Are you ok?" Sam looked at him in concern while Ben helped Hayley over to sit down next to Dean and asked the same question.
Dean grunted and Hayley nodded. "Where is it" he wanted to know, struggling into a standing position and grimacing as his bruised ribs gave a nasty throb. "It's not here" Sam assured him. "We saw it leave" Ben added.
Hayley gave a sharp gasp and the three guys spun around, expecting to see the Wendigo coming back, but instead they saw a figure hanging from the ceiling that they hadn't noticed before. She limped over, crying. "Tommy....Tommy wake up...please" she begged, reaching out to touch her older brother's face much in the same way Ben had touched hers.
But Tommy didn't stir.

Tommy had been strung from that ceiling for nearly four days now. Sam had a horrible feeling that that was probably too many days. But just as he was about to try and find the words to tell Hayley that they were going to have to get out of there and leave Tommy behind, the young man gave a start and opened his eyes. His breathing was shallow and he looked quite weak, but he was alive. "Get him down" Hayley pleaded, laughing through her tears. "Tommy, you're ok!""Hayley...Ben..." Tommy gave his younger siblings the biggest smile he could manage, so relieved to see them again.
Sam took the knife he had used on Dean's ropes and cut down Tommy, who draped an arm over each of his siblings' shoulders, partly to give them a hug, and partly to keep himself standing.
"We've got to get out of here." Sam handed Dean his fire blower, having picked it up from where it had been dropped, and then pulled his own from his pocket. "Before it comes back."

Dean accepted the fire blower in the hand that wasn't attached to the arm that was currently holding his stomach in an effort to calm the throbs of his bruised ribs. He limped forward, taking the lead of their little group, his weapon raised to eye level in case they were surprised by the Wendigo returning to his cave.
The five of them moved slowly; the only one who could move like a normal person at normal speed was Sam as Hayley and Dean were injured and Hayley and Ben were helping Tommy which left Ben, although injury free, also unable to move much faster than the injured members of their party.
A faint creak of wood met Dean's ears, alerting him to the fact that they were no longer alone in the cave and that the Wendigo had indeed returned. "Sounds like someone's home for dinner" he whispered so that the others would be aware as well. He pressed his back up against the cold wall of the cave and gestured wildly at Sam to turn off his flashlight. They didn't want to attract any attention.

Sam passed his thumb over the power switch of his flashlight, turning it off immediately. The Wendigo's five "house-guests" stayed as still and silent as statues until the sounds of the Wendigo's heavy footsteps had passed them, moving from the passage ahead of them or a side one. This was their opportunity to move undetected. But if they happened to be detected, there was no way they could outrun the Wendigo...not all together.
Sidling up to his brother, Sam whispered, "Are you thinking what I'm thinking?" There were very few times that the Winchester brothers were not thinking the same things, especially when it came to saving people. Dean gave his younger brother a brief nod and began limping off down the passage, hollering, "Chow time you freaky bastard!! Come and get me!""What is he doing??" Hayley gave Sam an alarmed look.
"Come with me." Sam didn't answer her question, but merely guided the three siblings down a side passage, leading in the exact opposite direction from where Dean was leading the Wendigo with his taunts.

"Come on you mutated monster! Not to brag or anything, but I taste really good." Dean's limping slowed as the sound of footsteps behind him became more and more evident. "Show time." Gripping the flame blower tightly in one hand, he swung around, preparing to fire it straight into the beast's chest.
But it wasn't there.
Hayley's distant scream of "Sam, no" explained the Wendigo's sudden absence. He must have smelled their scent or something.
"Crap."

The plan worked perfectly until they were about five feet from the exit. The Wendigo was waiting for them, its teeth bared into an ugly smirk. It could have easily just used its speed to attack, Sam reflected, but it probably wanted to chase them. Instill fear in its prey first. Sam backed up a few paces. "Get your brother to the other exit" he ordered to which Hayley emphatically replied, "Sam, no!" She knew Sam meant to stall the Wendigo by using himself as bait as Dean had tried to do earlier.
"GO." Sam blocked the Wendigo's path to the three siblings who started to move towards the opposite end of the passage as quickly as they could, Tommy still relying on his two siblings to help him walk.
They skidded to a halt and Hayley screamed, Hayley and Ben dragging Tommy backwards. The Wendigo had ignored Sam completely and had sprinted to the point of invisibility so that he was once again in front of Hayley, Ben, and Tommy with no one in between. Sam jumped in front of them again, taking his best aim at the Wendigo with his flame blower, but the Wendigo saw it coming and jumped out of the way. This, at least gave the four of them time to head for another exit but they had gotten lost and found themselves trapped in front of a dead-end. A big pile of hard dirt was all that met their eyes as they turned down a final corner.

Dean heard Hayley scream again and quickened his pace, searching every inch of the cave until he came upon the back of the Wendigo as it approached Sam, Ben, Hayley and Tommy. The three siblings had their backs pressed up against the side of the cave and Sam stood in front of them with his arms outstretched as far as they would go to protect them.
Dean aimed his flame blower carefully before shouting, "Hey!" The Wendigo was taken by surprise, having had all of his focus on the prey it had trapped, and spun around, off-balance to squint at Dean. Before it had time to do anything but tilt its head back and roar threateningly, it was engulfed by fire and the roar turned into a dying scream as the Wendigo dissolved into a pile of ash on the cave floor.
"Not bad, huh?" He grinned at Sam who returned the grin and shook his head, chuckling. Now that the danger was gone, it was ok to laugh.

"Tell us again what happened?" The officer held a pen over his notebook, prepared to take down notes of the incident. Sam and Ben swapped a look and then Ben spoke carefully. "The bear must have been 900 pounds...it circled the campsite and we ran from it but we got lost in the woods. It attacked my brother first and then my sister when she ran to help him.""What about the other one?" The officer paused in his scribbling. Sam nodded. "That's my brother. He ran to help Hayley and the bear turned on him too. It probably would have attacked me and Ben as well but we heard shots...probably some hunter or something...and the bear took off."
The officer nodded and wrote all this down. "Well thank you very much for the report. We'll send a team out into the woods to try and find and subdue the bear so it won't hurt anyone else."
Sam and Ben swapped a look and then nodded, trying to look grateful. They knew that the park ranger team sent out there would just waste their energy wandering around the woods because the thing that had been hurting people was already dead.

Meanwhile, Hayley was pulling back from the hug she had bestowed upon Dean a few feet away. "I really can't thank you enough for everything you've done for us." Dean smiled faintly. "I'm just glad Tommy's ok."
Hayley paused, glancing over her shoulder at Tommy who was bandaged up and loaded into an ambulance on a stretcher. She looked back to Dean. "Dean...I really hope you find your father." She stood on her tiptoes to kiss his cheek, unfazed by how dirty and grimy it was or by the strip of gauze covering the gash on his forehead.
Dean nodded with another faint smile. "Thanks." His gaze traveled to where Hayley's had been a few seconds earlier and noticed the ambulance driver getting ready to leave. Ben was climbing into the back of the ambulance with Tommy. "You'd better get going." He gestured at the vehicle whose engine was running.
Hayley hesitated for another second with her eyes lingering on Dean as though there was something else she wanted to say, but Sam approached them just then and she put a hand on his arm. "Thanks Sam." He nodded in response and Hayley spared one last look for Dean before hurrying over to the slowly departing ambulance and getting in.
The brothers watched as it raced off towards the nearest hospital. Dean waited until it was out of sight before speaking again. "Sam...we'll find Dad. You know that right? No matter what we do in the meantime...we'll find him."

Sam rested against the hood of the Impala next to Dean, looking off into space. "Yeah, I know." And he really did know. He was finally starting to understand that Dean wasn't brushing off the search for their father and that they really would find him no matter how long it took. He lowered his eyes and shifted them to the side so that he was looking at his brother. He tapped his shoulder against Dean's playfully. "But in the meantime...I'm driving."
