The book shop had been quite sleepy on this particular Friday. He had given Serenity the day off, so he was trying to occupy his time all by himself as the day dragged on. Despite his employee not being there, she kept creeping into his mind. It was all because of that kiss several days ago, which was entirely Harry’s fault. He refused to let them do their work until they kissed. Alex had been completely prepared to brush him off because of the nonsense he was spouting, but Serenity seemed more than willing to perform the kiss, as long as it meant Harry would leave. He knew that he had grown increasingly awkward around Serenity over the days after the kiss and he could only imagine what she had been thinking.
He gathered some books that had just been sold to him on the counter, carefully stacking them into a pile that was probably a little too tall. With a sigh, he pulled his notebook closer to him and rested his head in his hand as he stared down at what he had already written that day. Alex was an aspiring author and, while his works hadn’t been particularly popular with the public, they had been published. He held a small amount of pride in that and hoped that his next piece might be even more popular. The important thing to him, though, was that he enjoyed it and if even one other person enjoyed his stories, that was a job well done for him.
Unfortunately, just when he heard the front bell sound, his arm jerked out from under his head, accidentally knocking the large pile of books onto the floor. “Er – welcome to Once Upon a Time!” he said, jumping out from behind the counter and he ducked down repeatedly to pick up the books. He was beginning to regret insisting that Serenity take the day off. The shop always seemed like such a mess when she wasn’t around. “Sorry! I uh…well, I knocked these over – tends to happen a lot, I’m afraid. Anyway, yes, yes, anyway,” he said, carefully putting the pile of books back onto the counter,”Something I can help you find today?”
