It was very late Friday night and Alex had the last shift at Barnes and Noble. He adored his job, being surrounded by books and even having the chance to read stories to children accompanied with animated voices once a week, every Monday.
He didn’t mind staying late. In fact, he secretly preferred it. There was nothing quite like the feeling of being in the massive book store all by himself. He knew that he had probably been caught on the security cameras, but he couldn’t help but do sock slides down the wooden floors. No one had reprimanded him just yet, so he assumed that it was alright.
It was time for him to lock up. He had double checked all the displays, flipped off all the lights and just finished locking the back door that led to the parking lot. Pursing his lips, he began whistling as he made his way out to his car to head home when he heard –
“Good evening, Alex.”
Alex’s whistling slowed to a stop and he slowly turned around just in time to be slammed against a van. It dizzied him and after he landed, he looked around to see what had caused it.
There was a man slowly wandering towards him with venom in his eyes. It took him a moment for his eyes to focus. "Who - ?"
He was cut off by the man suddenly gripping him in a forceful headlock, nearing his extended fangs closer and closer to Alex's skin. "Who the hell are you to decide that our kind needs to be cured?"
Alex had researched vampires and werewolves enough to know how to get out of an attack safely...but that was when he wasn't restrained by one.
