I need to vent on this. Children can be so freaking mean. One of Dean's sisters ((her name is Jillian)) is an ice-skater and she also helps coach younger skaters, ages 8-11 ((she's 16, not that that is really relevant to the story, but oh well)). Anyway, today after school was their dress rehearsal for a big show coming up this weekend ((side note, Dean has asked me to come watch that with him on Saturday so we get to see two things together this weekend!)). Parents were invited to come watch. All these kids in all the age groups have different songs they skate to and do little skits and have been working really hard for months.
Now, one of the eleven year old girls is a little overweight. Not hugely, but you know how skaters can kinda get compulsive over being really skinny? Well anyway, some of the other eleven year olds got to the rink early and took her costume from her cubby in the locker room and ripped it up and got it all dirty and then put it back. Then they borrowed a pig's costume from the really little kids ((ages 4-7)) locker room because they were doing a Noah's ark skit and had a bunch of different animal costumes for it. And they put that in her cubby too. And this little girl got there, so excited to perform for not only her parents but her grandparents as well who flew out to see her because they couldn't make the actual show, and found all this. And the girls just pointed and laughed and told her she could either not skate with them or she could skate in a too small pig's outfit.
Jillian got there in time to hear a few things being said. According to Dean, who told me all this after Jillian told him, the little girl burst into tears and ran out of the room. Jillian was furious. So was the actual head coach ((she's just an assistant)) who got there a few minutes after Jillian.
I just can not believe kids at that age can be THAT mean. Now maybe it hit me a little harder because I've been overweight most of my life, but still. I just....wow.
