ooc; SEASON TWO. EPISODE ELEVEN.
The boys had set up shop in Peoria over a month ago. They'd posted Ava's picture everywhere, called anyone and everyone they could think of, and still came up dry. Sam was maniacal about the whole process, rarely sleeping or eating more than was just enough to get by. Dean knew he blamed himself for Ava's disappearance since he had been the last to see her and the one to insist she go home. He also knew that all they were doing was just busy work to make them feel good about being in action rather than sitting around. There had been sulfur at the crime scene and they both knew what that meant. They both knew that local law enforcement weren't going to be finding her and there was a good bet that they couldn't either.
On the 32nd day of their stay, Dean came back from picking up breakfast to find Sam on the phone. Dean placed a styrofoam cup of coffee down in front of him just as he finished the conversation and hung up. "Ellen hasn't heard anything." Sam took a long sip of his coffee. Dean did the same. "We'll find her Sam" he promised, despite having been thinking some very strong opinions to the contrary just a few minutes ago. Sam leaned back in his chair, both hands behind his head. "Well...Ellen did have something to say actually. But not about Ava. There have been two freak accidents at a hotel in Cornwall, Connecticut. A lady drowned in the bathtub and then two days ago, someone fell down the stairs. Head did a complete 180 degree turn." Dean blinked in surprise, taking a seat opposite his brother. From the interest in Sam's voice when explaining it, it sounded as though he wanted to check it out. Which would mean leaving this whole Ava hunt. "And?" "And...I told her we'd think about checking it out" Sam admitted. Dean blinked again. "Really?"
Sam straightened in his chair. "Well yeah Dean...I mean, it sounds like our kind of thing, doesn't it?" Dean nodded confidently. "Yeah, it definitely does. It just doesn't seem like the patented Sam Winchester stew on revenge and nothing else method is all." Sam tightened his jaw, not looking offended in the slightest. "Look, we've got squat to go on here. All we've got is Ava's dead fiancé, her engagement ring, and a pile of sulfur. The demon has taken her to some place god knows where...so yeah, I'm not going to give up on her. But I'm not going to let other innocent people die either." "Ok." Dean was impressed.
"Tell Ellen we'll look into it."
