ooc; SEASON TWO. EPISODE FOUR.
"This is stupid" Dean announced in a grumble as he drove the Impala towards the local graveyard. Sam rolled his eyes. "Come on Dean, it's not stupid. Visiting Mom's grave...especially after Dad...it just feels right. And no one asked you to come by the way" he added calmly. He'd been having a strong desire to swing by Mary Winchester's tombstone for awhile now but hadn't had a spare moment to broach the subject until recently. And the case they'd just finished with Gordon and the vampires was only a few states away from where Mary was buried. So it was perfect timing. The only problem was Dean, who had been metaphorically and literally dragging his feet ever since the idea was put on the table. "It's not like she's even really buried there" Dean was saying. "There wasn't a body." "There's a headstone" Sam reminded his brother patiently. "And besides, that's not really the point." "So what's the point then Sam? Enlighten me." Dean gripped the steering wheel tightly.
"To honor Mom's memory. To talk to her." "Whatever" Dean muttered, swinging the wheel hard and bringing the Impala to a halt in the cemetery's parking lot. No one else was there. Sam got out of the car slowly, his heart heavy. He'd only been six months old when his mother died. He had no memories of her. Just pictures. And whatever Dean or their father had mentioned over the years, which wasn't much. He left Dean in his wake and headed straight for the plot of land in question, headed up by a domed marble tombstone labeled "Mary Winchester". He knelt in front of it, his throat tight, tears building. "Hey Mom." Digging up a patch of grass, Sam reached inside of his pocket and surfaced with John's tags from the marines. "I think...I think Dad would want you to have these." His voice was thick as he dropped them into the hole and covered them up.
"I love you."
