ooc; SEASON ONE. EPISODE TWENTY.
Sam scrolled through the list of recent deaths in the nearest three states on his computer, looking for anything that might be a supernatural lead. But so far they were all very normal, very boring deaths. Across the table, Dean seemed to be having the same sort of luck. He gave a grouchy sigh and pushed the last newspaper away from him. "I've got nothing. Tell me you do." Sam sighed heavily and scanned the final listing. Sitting up a little straighter, he half-nodded. "Well, here's something. Maybe. Two days ago in Colorado, a man named Daniel Elkins was mauled to death inside of his locked cabin. Police thought it was a bear attack but then they found signs of a robbery. So now they're stumped." "They usually are" was Dean's immediate, sarcasm-coated quip. He grinned at the reproachful look Sam was giving him. "Ok, ok, sorry. So...a man named Daniel Elkins was murdered" he recapped. "Possibly by something up our alley." A sudden look of concentration overtook the older Winchester. "Wait a minute...Elkins...why does that name sound familiar to me?"
Sam browsed the rest of the article with an indifferent expression. "Doesn't ring a bell for me." "I'm sure I've heard it before" Dean mused with a pensive frown. While Dean sat there trying to jog his memory, Sam wrote down all of the information they would need on a scrap piece of paper before closing his laptop. "I got it!" Dean snapped his fingers in elation, clearly having figured something out. "Check it out" he continued, reaching into an inner pocket and surfacing with their father's leather-bound journal. Scrawled on one of the very first few pages was a list of contacts and their phone numbers. The first name was D. Elkins.
"You think it's the same guy" Sam asked curiously, stuffing his laptop out of sight back into its carrier bag. Dean snapped the journal closed knowingly. "It's a Colorado area-code." Sam had to admit that all signs pointed towards the D. Elkins in their Dad's journal being the same Daniel Elkins that was murdered two days ago. It might turn out to be nothing but they'd checked up on less before. Several times. So he got to his feet.
"I guess we're going to Colorado then."
