Alex slowly opened his eyes and he immediately furrowed his brows when he realized that he wasn’t quite sure where he was. The room was almost completely dark, save for one pitiful light that was hanging from the high ceiling. He squinted and quickly looked away when the bright light hit his eyes. As he turned, he realized that his right wrist was tied to a pole. He tried to remember what had happened, but his mind was fuzzy. He could barely recall what he had been doing the last time he was conscious. Alex bit his lip and tried to find some way out of his bindings, but it was no use. They were tied tight.
“Don’t even bother trying to escape,” came a voice from the darkness.
His attention jerked away from the bindings and turned to look in the direction from where the voice had come. “What? Who’s there?” he said, looking around, frantically. Before he even had a chance to react, the person came sweeping towards him, only stopping when the two of them were only inches apart. It appeared to be a very beautiful woman, but Alex knew enough that it couldn’t be just a regular human – she moved way too fast.
She reached out and grabbed his face, tilting his head from side to side as she examined him. “Do you really think he’ll do?” she called out to someone else in the shadows.
“He’ll have to. Our group has diminished and we need to turn whoever we can find,” came another voice from the darkness. It was a man and he slowly revealed himself and walked into the light. “Be patient, we’ll do it soon. I like to let them squirm for awhile,” he said, before holding his hand out to the female and they both moved back into the darkness.
Alex had no idea if they were still around or if they were just lurking in the shadows, waiting to pounce. He looked down at himself. His jacket and bowtie were missing. Frantically, he reached down to search his pockets for anything that he might be able to use as a weapon. Everything was gone. These creatures knew what they were doing.
