Dean caught the keys skillfully out of thin air with one hand. "Well as dropping a car on one of them didn't even bruise it, I'm going to have to go with no, but it's a thought." He watched her curiously as she climbed onto Sam's lap with a piece of pie. "I'll be right back" he added, wondering if there was another reason other than being hungry that she wanted Dean out of the motel room.
Sam barely reacted when he was no longer alone on the bed, his mind so full of other thoughts. When Dean slammed the door behind him, he jumped again, looking around and blinking a few times. "I think I'll get that pie now." He stood quickly, dropping Kesh from his lap to the ground between the two beds and edging over to the table.
We hunt monsters....you know who does that? Crazy people!
She gave Dean a small wave as he left the apartment and carried on eating her pie. The best part about it was that the door slamming didn't even startle her. She mentally patted herself on the back for that.
What she didn't expect however was Sam to get up so quickly and she landed on the floor, just saving the pie.
When she got up off the floor, she calmly placed her pie down on the bedside table and moved over to Sam, pulling him around to face her and she slapped him straight around the face.
"Give a girl some freakin' warning next time, jackass," she said, glaring up at him for a moment. "You see, you only make me more suspicious. You want me to stay but you want to avoid me. Just tell me what you hallucination said for the love of God. What difference is it going to make to whatever relationship we have? To my knowledge, we're friends, right? Just spit it out."
As she said "spit it out", she struck his arm with each word.
"If you don't tell me, I'll knock you on your ass."

Sam blinked. It's not that he wasn't used to getting hit...his brother and monsters knocked him around all the time. What he hadn't been expecting was for this quiet little girl to be the next one to land a slap solidly on his face.
"She's feisty."
Sam gave her an odd look as she threatened him. He was three times her size and had much better reflexes and training in hand to hand combat. He knew it would be impossible for her to carry out this action and the only way she had even managed to slap him was that she had caught him off guard. He reached out to gather her hands in his after she had hit him repeatedly on the arm. "Stop it, ok. Just forget about it. He's not important. He's not even real." It took him awhile to know this for sure after the wall collapsed, but he did know it.
"Ouch, Sam."

Kesh growled a little when he took hold of her hands and held them tightly so she couldn't go at him anymore.
"I don't give a shit if he's not real, I want to know why you're being such an awkward bitch about it? If he's not real, what he says can't be real. So what the hell does it matter? I want to know," she said, glaring at him straight in the eyes and she tried to pull her hands back so she could hit him again. "I still have legs you know... I'll kick you."
And she did exactly that. She lifted her right foot, placing all her balance into Sam who still had a hold of her hands and she booted him right in the shin.
"Just tell me and I'll leave you alone. I'll drop it. Whatever," she said as she went in for another kick.

Sam winced as her foot made contact with his shin, still gripping her hands tightly. "Come on Sammy, just tell her already." "Fine" he exploded just as the door to the motel room swung open and Dean reappeared with just one book in his hands. "He said you have a massive crush on me. Are you happy now?" He let go of her hands. "Atta boy."
Dean stood in the doorway fighting the urge to laugh hysterically. He had always been the better Winchester when it came to girls. Sam obviously had some luck of his own, but there was no doubt in anyone's mind that Dean was the cassanova of the two. So Dean could see right away why all of this was awkward for his brother. He slammed the door with one foot to break the silence and give some relief to the younger Winchester. "I found one book about purgatory that might mention leviathans. For a traveling library, you've got squat."

"Uh, I have a crush on you?" she said. "I don't even know what they are so how can I have one?"
She backed away from him a little and looked round at Dean, the confusion etched into her face like carvings on stone. "Well, I didn't say I had everything, did I?" she said back to Dean and sauntered over to her pie again, promptly parking herself on the floor so she was out of sight mostly. She grabbed her pie and started to think about what a crush was.
She could tell you how to go about flushing out a nest of vampires or killing a werewolf. But she couldn't for the life of her figure out what he meant by "a crush".
From that point on, she'd completely zoned out from whatever Sam and Dean were talking about. She was far too lost in thought to care.

Sam was actually quite pleased to find out that she had no idea what a crush was which made the whole thing a lot less awkward. He shook his head, trying not to smile as Dean approached. "Shut up Dean." The older Winchester hadn't actually said anything past his remarks on Kesh's book collection but the teasing comments were written all over his face like a greeting card.
Dean pulled his brother into a quick brotherly hug, clapping him on the back before dropping into one of the empty seats at the cluttered table. "Here. Have a book." He tossed the purgatory book at Sam who caught it with the same type of skill that Dean had caught the keys and opened it to the first page, still standing. "Dean...this is a book of myths surrounding purgatory...we have no idea if any of the things in here are actually true."
Dean took a huge chunk of the remaining pie and began eating it with a look of bliss. "Happy reading."

When Kesh came out of her little trance, she looked up and saw Dean with a perfectly content look on his face as another forkful of pie entered his mouth and Sam looking lost in the pages of the book Dean had surfaced from her car. She looked down at her plate and it was empty.
A small sigh escaped her lips and she kept looking at the brothers. She cleared her throat and pushed herself into a standing position.
"Can someone tell me what a crush is? And why did you hug Sam? For telling the truth?" she asked. "Is a crush a good or a bad thing?"

Sam turned a page in his book and said nothing, but you could see a tiny hint of pink creeping up his neck. He clearly didn't want to be the one to explain the terminology to Kesh. Dean shoveled another forkful of pie into his mouth and swallowed, addressing the issue of the hugging thing first. "There wasn't really a reason." He wasn't sure how to put into words that he was hugging him to show that despite all of their recent fights he still cared about him more than anyone or anything and that they were brothers and nothing would change that. So instead he threw out a flippant answer of, "Sam's a hugger. Always has been. So I thought I'd just do him a favor and hug him before he got around to hugging me."
He took another bite of pie, savoring the heavenly flavor. "As for the crush thing...it's really not that big of a deal. It's just when you like someone as more than a friend and you hope things will develop past friendship but you aren't really sure that the other person reciprocates those feelings...so you don't say anything to them. That about covers it, right Sammy?" He shot a teasing grin at his younger brother who hid behind the book.

Kesh thought about what Dean said for a moment, intently watching him shoveling the pie down his neck like it was the most delicious thing he'd ever eaten. Her eyes then scanned Sam who seemed intent on being sucked into the book and staying in there rather than being in this situation right now.
"So... A crush is like... loving someone, but not quite loving them and hoping that the other person likes you back," Kesh repeated, trying to make things clearer in her own mind. "What do crushes feel like? Because they name implies that it really hurts or it's really uncomfortable or something. I don't feel like that around either of you. And if it does really hurt, then I don't want one. Unless it's one of those things you can't chose."
She flopped onto the edge of the bed and frowned a little and began fiddling with her necklace, clinking the little vial of rock salt against the pentagram.
"What would happen if I did actually have a crush on Sam though?" she asked out of the blue.

Dean was finding it harder and harder not to laugh at this whole situation. Finding people who didn't know about the supernatural...well, that was an occurance that happened all the time, but finding someone who was so clueless that they didn't know what a freaking crush was was just....he couldn't even put into words the amount of ridiculousness he felt at this whole conversation.
But as Sam continued to read myths about purgatory and stay silent, it was up to him to finish off the explanation. "I'm honestly not sure how it feels to have a crush." It would be far better for Sam to explain this as he had had crushes on girls when he was younger. For Dean, it worked much simpler than all those head and heart games. If he liked a girl, he walked up to her and flatly told her and most of the time they would end up making out. There was no time on record that a girl would refuse Dean Winchester and he didn't plan on changing that. "But I suppose it's one of those things that if you constantly direct your thoughts away from the person you might be able to change how you feel...or if you find someone else you like better."
When she asked what would happen if she did happen to have a crush on Sam, Dean shrugged evasively. "Probably nothing. You'd have to ask Sam though." Sam, not wanting to hurt Kesh's feelings by admitting that he just didn't feel that way about her, quickly put down the book and stood up. "I need some air." He grabbed his coat on the way to the door. "The only thing in that book that talks about leviathans by the way" he added before stepping outside. "...is that you should run."
Dean glared at the book. "Awesome."

Kesh listened to what Dean said but it didn't make anything that was going through her head at the time any clearer. She was just as confused. Sure, she liked Sam and he was kind of attractive and really tall and at times, he could be really sweet. But she wasn't entirely sure if she had any romantic feelings for him. It was yet another thing that she had yet to experience.
She turned to Sam and was about to ask him what would happen if she had a crush on him, but he cut across her, like he knew she was gonna do it. He said something about going out for some air and as he left he dropped a bomb shell about the book. That all it said about them was to run and not look back. Dean let out a sarcastic awesome as Sam exited the room and Kesh watched him go with a frown on her face.
"He doesn't have a crush on me if his body language is anything to go by," she said slowly, still staring at the closed door for a moment. Her gaze turned to Dean. "Yours on the other hand... You ate way too much pie and you feel sick and what Sam just said made you feel worse."
She flopped down onto the bed behind her again and stretched out.

Dean did indeed feel a little queezy as he leaned back in his chair, contemplating the book Sam had left behind. There had to be some book or hunter somewhere that held a scrap of information about how to at least slow the suckers down for a few minutes. Kesh's question brought forth a bitter smile. "Because then it wouldn't be life. Or, not ours anyway." The lives of people who hunted or even just researched...or even just knew about the things that went bump in the night...well, their lives would and could never be simple. Dean had learned that the hard way over his 30 some odd years of life.
He pushed away the last portion of his pie and rubbed his eyes with both palms trying to wipe away the last of his exhaustion. Sleep was something he couldn't really afford...not even his usual three hours...with all those leviathans out there, planning a scheme that he had yet to figure out.
"You might want to get some rest" he suggested, stifling a yawn of his own and spreading out some paperwork on the table in between the other guns and books and Sam's laptop. It was going to be a long night.

"I suppose," Kesh said and she sat up again, watching Dean struggling to stay awake. She raised an eyebrow at him when he told her she she get some rest and she shook her head as a reply. "I'm not tired. So, resting would be pointless. You on the other hand need to sleep," she said, pushing herself up off the bed and smiling at him.
She pointed from him to the bed.
"Come on," she goaded and moved over to him. "You get some shut eye and I can look through this lot. I might be able to spot something either of you can't since.. no offence, I'm younger and a tiny bit intellectually sharper since my head hasn't been smashed around as much as yours has. So sleep. I'll have some coffee ready for when you wake up and I'll give you a full report of what I found. If anything."

Dean tried to argue but he was too tired to form any solid arguments or counter-arguments to what she had said. And what she said about his and Sam's heads getting banged around might have been insulting if it weren't so accurate. The boys had had their fair share of concussions over the years, not to mention the other parts of their bodies that got bruised and broken. He stumbled over to the bed and was asleep before his head had even made contact with the pillow.
Two hours later, he raised a groggy head from the pillow and looked around, blinking a few times. "Find anything?" He climbed from the bed, raked back his bed-ruffled hair and crossed to stand behind her. It took another minute, but the next question was asked with a touch more urgency than the first. "Where's Sam?"
