"Safe where" Sam pressed, his desire to know the location of the tablet obscuring basically everything else in his mind currently. Knowing it existed and knowing it was out there made it pretty hard not to want to make sure it was kept in the best possible hands. Which would be theirs. Obviously.
"Who cares, as long as its safe" Dean countered, clapping Kevin on the shoulder once with a lingering glance of pride before asking something else about the tablet that had been on his mind since learning it existed a few minutes ago. "Were you able to read anything else off the tablet before you stashed it?" It must have been a pretty scary situation, running from demons with the thing you had stolen from them, and not being able to get anyone to answer your phone calls (he was really going to have to let that go), so he wouldn't be surprised if the kid hadn't been able to read anything else while just trying to survive.
Even if he had been in advance placement.

Kevin nodded and grinned when Dean asked what he was able to read from the tablet. He took his time in divulging this important information because it was quite the bomb to drop. “Oh, just the stuff about closing the gates of Hell…forever,” he said, his grin broadening. If they were able to actually achieve this, then all of the demons would be gone. He would actually be able to go back to his old life, if that happened. He wondered how much convincing it would take for Kevin to be allowed to take that final exam that he missed.
Sensing Dean’s eagerness, Kevin sighed and elaborated on the topic. “Banish all demons off the face of the earth. Lock them away forever. That could be important, right?” he asked, grinning, as he looked between the two brothers.

There was something in Kevin's expression as he looked between Dean and Sam that made Dean feel that maybe his earlier thought had been wrong. That maybe the kid DID know something else about what was on that tablet. He swapped a curiously elated look with Sam when Kevin mentioned closing the gates of hell. Forever. Permanently.
Kevin seemed to be enjoying this moment. He appeared to be on the verge of laughing as he asked if the information he had just divulged was important, although Dean was fairly certain it was a rhetorical question. Kevin was smart enough to know how important it was.
But he played along, taking a few steps back in Kevin's direction. "Wiping the planet clean of all demons? Sending them back to hell...forever??" He paused rather dramatically. "Yeah. That could be important."

Kevin’s glee was beginning to wear off and he dropped his arms to his sides. He had yet to figure out exactly how the Gates of Hell couldn’t actually be closed forever. The demon tablet was quite a bit harder to read than the Leviathan tablet had been. Every time he looked at it, it was like he was near-sighted mixed with an earthquake going on. And that was before he was even able to decipher the impossible text.
He couldn’t lie…he was definitely curious as to what the Winchester brothers had been up to all year while he was running around like a chicken with its head cut off. “So…purgatory and…a dog?” he asked, crossing his arms again as he looked between the brothers, inviting them to elaborate a bit. “You were in purgatory for a full year?” he asked, turning to Dean.

"Damn straight." Dean nodded grimly, his mind pulling forth all the memories of purgatory he had been trying to suppress ever since returning. Images of creatures attacking him, throwing him into trees. Images of Benny coming to the rescue. Images of Cass...he stopped himself cold from thinking any farther about purgatory, especially things about Cass and swung his glance over to Sam pointedly. Kevin had asked about the dog again. Was he simply going to ignore the question a second time?
Sam nudged Dean in the arm and pointed towards the still open door of the church. "Can I talk to you for a minute?" If all that Kevin was saying was true, he and his brother had a lot to talk about. He glanced briefly at Kevin. "We'll be right back."
Yes. Yes he was.

Kevin’s eyes widened and he shook his head as he glanced away from the brothers. He couldn’t imagine what it must have been in like such a place. The tablet gave a brief description of it and that alone sent chills up Kevin’s spine. The place where all monsters went when they were killed? They must have been all over the place. He guessed that he should feel lucky he hadn’t had to go through something like that yet in his life, even if things did seem to kind of suck right now.
“Whoa,” he said, taking a step forward when he heard what Sam said,”If this is about what’s going on, then you can talk in front of me. I mean…we’re in this together, right?” his gaze flashed between the two brothers, a bit paranoid that they wanted to discuss something about the situation without him.

Dean lifted a challenging eyebrow at Sam when Kevin interrupted, demanding that anything said about the mess they were in be said in front of him. Knowing Sam better than anyone in the world, Dean already knew what Sam wanted to talk about. He felt bad that Kevin had been dragged into this tablet nonsense and all the danger that came along with it. He was probably trying to think of a way to keep Kevin from being smack dab in the middle of it all by telling him that it was his life and he could choose to go a different way.
"I think what Sam is worried about is the fact that you are sitting on a bomb with this information. Crowley knows about it and I'm sure it won't be long before every demon does too. The more demons who know about it, the more danger you are in." His intention wasn't to scare Kevin more or sound eerie and threatening. His intention was to just be upfront about everything. He lifted his eyes to meet Sam's and Sam gave half a shrug, not admitting to whatever he had been going to say if he had gotten Dean alone.
Instead, he turned to Kevin. "Look, I know things are probably scary right now, but if we can get the ingredients for the spell and close the gates of hell forever...there's a world out there where nothing is scary anymore. Where no one can chase or hurt you. Not Crowley, not anyone."
Dean let out a breath. He was glad to see that Sam was actually encouraging Kevin to go forth with the tablet stuff instead of turning and running, which was a specialty of his. His being Sam, not Kevin.
There was a sudden ear-splitting noise and the floor began to shake, splitting every one of the devil's traps in half. Dean took a step backwards.
"We've got company."

Kevin furrowed his brows, looking between the two brothers, fully expecting them to give him some sort of excuse as to why they wanted or needed to talk by themselves. His face softened when he realized that they weren’t going to do this, though. He swallowed hard when he heard what Dean said, though. “You think I haven’t thought about that?” he asked with a small laugh. He knew that every demon in Hell would probably want to get their hands on him to find out what was on the demon tablet. It wasn’t exactly something that he could ignore or forget about. It was why he’d grown to be so paranoid ever since he escaped from Crowley.
He lowered his head slightly and shrugged. “Guess I just don’t see how I get from here to there,” he said, sighing. Kevin knew that there was a small light at the end of the tunnel, but the chances of him actually arriving at the light seemed so minimal. He was craving the stress of the PSATS and finals right about now. All that really seemed so meaningless at this point.
Kevin was about to open his mouth to say that he was going to collect some things before leaving when the whole church began shaking. The doors flung open and what Kevin could assume were demons entered. He backed up and snatched a bottle of holy water from a table nearby, trying to prepare himself.

Two tall men in black suits with eyes that matched the color of their choice of clothing entered the church with purpose in their stride. The pair of them looked to Kevin first. "Kevin Tran" one of them announced rather unnecessarily since everyone in the room knew who Kevin was. Dean took a protective step in front of Kevin, reaching into his leather jacket and surfacing with his special demon-killing knife, its blade glinting. "Douchebag the demon" he replied dryly.
The demon's eyes flicked to Dean in annoyance. It was a look most creatures fixed upon him. "Dean Winchester. Back from purgatory I see.""I am." Dean was quick to fire another deadpan quip, as usual. "Your mom says hi by the way." He tightened his grip on the knife, lifting it to eye level and tensing. The first demon sprang at him while the second tried to get around him to Kevin but was blocked by Sam. Sam was knifeless as Dean held the only one of their demon-killing ones, but he threw up a pretty solid right hook, catching the demon in the jaw. "Stay away from him."

Kevin could feel his heart beating faster and faster when one of the demons that entered stated his name. He wanted to know how they were able to track him down. Was he or the tablet giving off some sort of supernatural beacon that the demons were able to track? He gripped the bottle of holy water in his hands and backed up until he hit a wall. The demon that Sam had punched quickly recovered and went running towards Kevin. He squirted the bottle in the demon’s direction, relieved when he was able to hit him right in the face, causing smoke to emit wherever the holy water had hit him. It was times like this when Kevin wished that he knew how to physically fight.

The second demon howled in agony as the holy water landed a direct hit on his face. Both hands went up to try and claw the offensive liquid from his burning, smoldering face. Sam used this opportunity to grab the demon-killing knife from the floor where it had fallen when the first demon scissor-kicked it out of Dean's grasp. The two were now just throwing punches at each other on the opposite side of the room.
With the knife in hand, Sam plunged it deep into the second demon's sternum. A bright yellow glow emitted from the dying demon along with a final scream. Sam's head whipped around to try and locate his brother now that the danger for him and Kevin had been taken care of.
Dean had been pinned to the wall by the throat, slowly losing oxygen. "Dean!" Sam shouted his older brother's name and tossed the knife as hard as he could. It hit the demon in the back. It wasn't hard enough to kill but it certainly caused it enough pain to let go of the older Winchester and try to reach around to its back to dislodge the weapon.
Dean dropped to the ground, landing in a crouched position and massaged his neck for a second before standing, plunging the knife farther into the demon's back and killing it without a shred of remorse. He looked from one demon corpse to the other with a bad feeling. "We've got to get out of here before"-
"Hello boys."

Kevin immediately moved back from the demon as soon as his skin began sizzling from the holy water. He looked around, trying to find something else that he could possibly use to fight and help the brothers out, but the most useful thing was the holy water he was already using. Kevin moved swiftly out of the way as Sam plunged the demon killing knife into the demon that had first tried to attack Kevin. He cringed at the bright light that emitted from the demon that had just been knifed. He wasn’t sure if he would ever get used to things like that happening.
Upon hearing the new voice, a chill went down Kevin’s spine. He turned around and saw none other than Crowley, the king of Hell himself. Sure, his last encounter with Crowley hadn’t been that bad, but he knew that he had angered the king of Hell, which was…bad. His eyes widened and his stomach dropped, though, when he noticed the figure standing silently next to Crowley, while he and the Winchesters bantered. “Let Channing go,” he said, firmly.

Both Winchesters whipped around when they heard the familiar british accent. "Crowley" Dean growled, tightening his grip on the blood-soaked demon-killing knife he was once again in possession of. Their attention was so lasered in on the king of hell that it took Kevin demanding his ex-girlfriend's release for them to notice her standing sort of off to the side.
Crowley dusted an imaginary speck of lint off of his immaculate suit and looked directly at Kevin. "Kevin...last time we danced, you stole my tablet and killed my men. I should be very upset with you. But I'll tell you what...come with me now and I'll forget it ever happened." He waved one hand in a sort of dismissive gesture. His eyes flicked to the girl standing next to him. "And I'll let the girl go as a bonus. What do you say Kev?"
Dean could see that Kevin was considering it and he stepped closer to Crowley, still brandishing the knife threateningly. "He's lying." He was speaking to Kevin but his eyes never left Crowley's smug expression, which fizzled into a pretty believable one of disbelief. "I am insulted by your slanderous allegations Squirell." He made a big show of pausing dramatically. "Oh, I'm sorry. Let me put that in language you can understand. I"-
Dean interrupted acidly with, "Bite me."

Kevin clenched his jaw when he heard what Crowley said. His first instinct was to give himself up to save Channing, but he knew that protecting the tablet should be his number one priority. Besides, if Crowley got his hands on Channing, she was probably already gone. He swallowed the sadness that washed over him because he needed to focus. He needed to have a clear head. Kevin fell silent as Crowley and Dean bantered back and forth, trying to figure out what he should do. And that’s when he came up with an idea.
“Alright. I’ll do it. Me for the girl,” he said, nodding towards Channing’s direction. Kevin was a good enough actor that it truly looked as if he was going to give himself over to Crowley. He ignored Dean when he spoke up. “Let me just go grab my stuff,” he said, not looking at the Winchesters before going back to one of the rooms. The room he went into was one that he had rigged with holy water above the door. He grabbed the string and waited for the demons to come and check up on him.

"Kevin" Dean tried to interrupt incredulously but Kevin wasn't paying attention. He was agreeing to Crowley's terms and hurrying off to gather his belongings. Dean clenched his jaw and turned back to Crowley who looked to be enjoying himself. Until Kevin didn't reappear, that is. "Kevin?" He waited for a few seconds after calling out and then took a step towards where Kevin had vanished around the corner.
"Can't let you do that." Both Winchesters stood shoulder to shoulder, blocking the path to Kevin. Dean hoisted the demon-killing knife once again but Crowley simply rolled his eyes and snapped. Within seconds, the blade in Dean's hand was white-hot against his hand and it fell with a clatter to the floor. "Really boys? I thought we were past that." Crowley sighed, gestured to the demon inside of Channing and the pair of them pushed past the Winchesters in search of Kevin.
Crowley and Channing rounded the corner and stepped into the only room they could find, figuring it must be where Kevin was. "Kevin? Kevin, what are you"- Crowley stopped talking mid-sentence when he noticed the string in Kevin's hand. He knew what was going to happen, though it was going to happen too fast to do anything about it. "Bolloux."
