Dean blinked. "Come again?"
Sam checked his watch. "Dean, that plane is taking off in twenty minutes with over 100 innocent people on board and if we're right, forty minutes later it's going to crash! Now go!" Dean didn't move. Sam had taken three steps before coming to this realization. "Dude, we are kind of on a time crunch here" Sam exclaimed in exasperation before softening his tone and asking offhandedly, "is something wrong?" He wasn't really expecting an answer.
Dean looked at his feet sheepishly and then back up to his brother. "Well...now that you mention it...yes." Sam just stared at him so he expanded upon it. "I sort of have this thing...this thing where I'm..." "...scared of flying?" Sam prompted, glancing at his watch again. Dean gave a guilty shrug of admittance and Sam's jaw dropped. "Are you serious?" He'd never expected his older brother to be afraid of anything...and with all the crap they'd been through and everything they'd seen, it certainly wasn't planes that he thought would take his brother down a peg on the "bad ass" scale.
Dean seemed to know what Sam was thinking and there was a touch of edgy defensiveness in his tone when he responded. "It's never really been a problem before now...why do you think I drive everywhere Sam??" Sensing his attitude about the whole thing may have hit a nerve, Sam dialed his incredulous down several notches. "Ok. That's fine. I'll uh...I'll just do this one on my own." He took another step towards the ticket counters. Dean's arm reached out in a nanosecond to grab Sam's sleeve. "Are you insane? Sam, you said it yourself" he whisper-hissed as so not to attract the attention or panic of any passerby. "The plane is going to crash! If you think I'm letting you get on that thing..." He trailed off, shaking his head.
Sam glanced at his watch for a third time impatiently. "Dean, we can do this together or I can do this by myself. I'm not really seeing a third choice so unless you can suggest one in the next minute, I'm leaving."
Dean looked from his brother's grim, no-nonsense expression to the board of departures that announced Amanda Walker's flight would be departing in 12 minutes and then back to Sam. He gave in. "Alright, fine! I'll meet you at the gate...do not get on that plane until I'm there" he added in a slightly louder volume as Sam turned and walked briskly away. Dean turned and sprinted in the opposite direction towards the parking lot.
This was going to be a long day.
