Together Again. // Sam //

Sam moved a bit forward to examine the sheets of paper out on the porch railing. His eyes moved quickly across the pages, taking in all of the information with the speed reading skill he had picked up from going to school. He didn't want to admit it, but the thing did catch his interest slightly. "Are there any local legends about the area?" he asked, pulling his eyes away from the reports to look at his older brother.

He sighed and looked away from Dean to give himself a moment to think. If what Dean said was true, then it was looking as if their father really might be in some trouble. Even if the father and son did butt heads over some things, they were still family.

"Alright. I'll help you find Dad, but I need to be back by Monday morning. I've got an interview. Deal?" he asked, raising his eyebrows in his brother's direction.

"Well, what did they say?" he asked, annoyed at the vague reply. While it was true that teenagers did like to make up stories and whatnot, it was also true that those stories tended to come from old legends that circulated around the area. "Yeah, I'll probably be able to dig something up," he said with a shrug. His researching skills had gotten even better since he'd joined school.

Sam caught onto the strange way that Dean was staring at him, but he ignored it. "No, it's a law school interview and it's really important," he said, trying to get his point across. His whole future was riding on the interview that was to take place on Monday morning. It was an understatement to say that he was nervous about it.

"Alright, I'll be right back," he said, moving back into the house to go pack up some things. Jessica put up some opposition to him leaving because she was concerned about him getting to his interview on time, but Sam was able to convince her that everything would be alright. He packed up his computer and some extra clothes and other things before heading back out to meet Dean.

"Yep" said Sam as he haphazardly tossed his backpack into the trunk of the car. He had his laptop bag slung over his shoulder and he wandered over to the passenger side of the car. Sam took one more glance up at the house, where Jessica was most likely back in bed all by herself. He hated to leave her, especially since she had put up such a fight to get him to stay, but he really felt that this was something he had to do. Sam didn't' want anything bad to happen to his father.

He opened the passenger side door and carefully slid into the seat, despite the bad feeling he had in the pit of his stomach. They were just dreams, after all, right? Nothing bad was going to happen to Jessica. "Let's go," he said, wanting to leave before he changed his mind.

As they drove in silence, Sam let his mind wander slightly. He thought back to the dreams he had been having. It was the same one over and over again - Jessica on the ceiling with flames all around her. He was constantly telling himself that it was just a dream and it didn't mean anything, but there was something in the pit of his stomach that told him otherwise.

Sam was pulled out of his thoughts when his brother spoke up once again. He leaned forward to listen carefully to what the voice mail said. Their father's voice could barely be heard over the static. "That's EVP," he said, looking back at Dean. He would recognize that sound anywhere - it had been driven into his mind enough by their father.

"Have you messed with it at all? Separated the sounds to hear the EVP?"
