No more than perhaps a day and a half had gone by and Sam suddenly and without warning found himself back topside. No longer in hell, his first stop had been Lisa's house which he stood outside of beneath a street lamp, observing the small family through their kitchen window. First his eyes found Ben, sitting at the table, laughing with his mouth open at whatever his mother had said. Sam's eyes had found her next, standing at the table, sliding something from a frying pan onto each of the three plates. And when she moved to the side, Sam's eyes found Dean. He was drinking from a beer bottle, conversing with both Lisa and Ben. He seemed relatively alright and even on the brink of happy. Sam studied him for another minute.
And then walked away.
