-- "Adam" --
The beautiful green room he now found himself in was fit for a king. There was a table of amazing burgers and a whole cooler of beer just sitting there, waiting for him. He'd plowed through two burgers and was working his way steadily through the third when Zachariah's voice interrupted him. "I see you and your brother share the same refined palate." Adam cleared his throat, put down his burger and wiped the grease from his fingers on his pants. "So uh...are we ready?" Zachariah stared blankly at him. "For what?" Adam frowned in confusion, figure it should have been pretty obvious what he was talking about. "What do you mean, for what? For Michael..." "Oh." Zachariah smiled in an odd way. "Right. About that…Look, this is never easy, but I’m afraid…we’ve had to terminate your position at this time." Adam blinked, not liking the way this was going. "Excuse me?"
Zachariah adjusted his tie knot, then clapped his hands together encouragingly. "Hey, don’t get me wrong. You’ve been a hell of a sport, really." He held up two thumbs. "Good stuff. But the thing is, you’re not so much the “chosen one” as you are…" His thumbs dropped. "A clammy scrap of bait." "No…" Adam shook his head, trying to wrap his mind around this new information. "But...but what about all the stuff that you said? I’m supposed to fight the devil." "Mmm, not so much." Zachariah chuckled. "But hey, if it’s any consolation, you happen to be the illegitimate half-brother of the guy we DO care about. That’s not bad, is it?" "So you lied..." Adam felt his heartrate begin to rise in anger as he realized Sam had been right. "About everything."
"We didn’t lie" Zachariah objected, smiling triumphantly. "We just avoided certain truths to manipulate you." "Oh you son of a bitch" Adam growled numbly unable to think of anything else to say to sum up how he felt. He'd betrayed two very nice guys who shared a dad with him for this smug fat angel who disregarded anyone's feelings or agendas but his own. "Hey, how do you think I feel" Zachariah countered, gesturing at Adam. "I’m the one that’s got to put up with that dumb, slack-jawed look on your face." Adam lifted his furious glare to lock eyes with the angel who seemed unfazed. "Kid, we didn’t have a choice" he informed him next. "The Winchesters got ONE blind spot, and it’s family." He moved closer, perching on the edge of the table as he continued explaining. "See, Sam and Dean, they’re gonna put aside their differences and they're gonna come get you, and that is gonna put Dean right…here…" He pointed to the floor at his feet. "Right where I need him. This is the night, kid! Our night. Michael’s seen it. The tumblers finally click into place, and it’s all because of you." He pointed at Adam with a flourish and then added confidently, "and me. But who’s keeping score?" He grinned, clearly enjoying himself. "Yeah..." Adam wasn't going to let Dean walk right into a trap. He stood, fists clenched, sounding a lot more confident than he truly felt.
"I’m not gonna let you do this."
