After spraypainting a devil's trap beneath a rug on the floor and leaving Ruby's knife on the bedside table, Sam sat at the kitchen table again, perfectly still. It was going on two hours like this when there was a sudden knock at the door. Rising slowly, Sam made his way over to the door, unlocked and opened it. No one was there. Glancing left and right a few times to make sure of it, Sam then closed and re-locked the door. But when he turned back around to face the room at large, it was no longer empty. "Hello Sam" the young woman now standing there said with a pleasant smile. Sam's expression was anything but pleasant. "I've been waiting for you." Lilith's eyes rolled back into her skull, turning pure white, confirming it was indeed her.
"Where's the knife Sam" she demanded, rolling her eyes back down to normal. "On the nightstand. By the bed." Sam pointed with a clenched jaw. Lilith started to walk that way, but stopped after only a few steps. Looking down, she knelt and lifted the corner of the rug underneath which was the devil's trap Sam had painted. "You're going to have to try harder than that" she chided, placing one finger to the edge of the trap and burning it away, breaking the circle. "How 'bout this then" Sam suggested as she rose, lifting one hand and concentrating. With Alistair it had killed him instantly. With Lilith, all it did was blow her hair back in an oddly appealing way. "You're strong" she observed with an impressed smile. "But you're not that strong. Not yet." "So why don't you throw me around a little" Sam challenged mockingly. "Because I can't, and you know it" she snapped irritably before returning to a somewhat sultry tone. "You're immune to my charms. So it seems we're at a stalemate." "Then why are you here" Sam demanded heatedly. "To talk" was her simple answer, accompanied by a light shrug. "Yeah, well, I'm not interested" Sam scoffed, turning away.
Lilith began to circle him slowly. "Hmm... even if I'm offering to stand down? From the seals... the apocalypse... all of it?" Sam narrowed his eyes. "You expect me to believe that?" Lilith returned to the front of Sam, sighing. "Honestly? No. You were always the smart one. But it's the truth." She advanced a step on him, closing the gap between them. "You can end it, Sam. Right here, right now. I'll stop breaking seals, Lucifer keeps rotting in his cage. All you have to do is agree to my terms." "Why would you back down? Why now?" This didn't make any sense. As far as Sam knew, the demonic side of the war was winning. The seals were constantly breaking and there couldn't be that many more until 66 was reached. Lilith turned away, wandering a few paces towards the bed, her expression one of forced casualness. "Turns out, I don't survive this war" she announced. "Killed off, right before the good part starts." Sam could see past the mask. She was scared. Lilith was actually scared.
"What do you want" he demanded shortly. "For it to go back to the way it was" Lilith admitted, smiling fondly. "Before I had angels to deal with 24/7. The good old days, when it was all baby blood all the time." "And what do you want in return" Sam wanted to know shrewdly, knowing she would have a price. A deadly one most likely. And he was right. "Your head on a stick." Lilith didn't waste any time. "Dean's too." She licked her lips, smirking. "Call it a consolation prize." Sam stared at her wordlessly. "So what do you say, Sam" Lilith prompted, approaching him again. "Self-sacrifice is the Winchester way, isn't it?" Sam narrowed his eyes. "You really think I'm stupid enough to fall for this??" "I make a deal, I have to follow through. Those are the rules, and you know it" Lilith insisted hotly, sounding almost insulted by the insinuation she would break an official deal. She picked up her circling again, whispering as she went. "Are you really so arrogant that you would put your life before the lives of six billion innocent people? Maybe it's all that demon blood pumping through your pipes." Completing the circle, she placed a hand on his chest, approximately where his heart would be, causing Sam to flinch automatically and draw back. "Man after my own heart." The remark about the demon blood fueled his already high temper a few degrees hotter. "You think I'm like you" he growled. "I am NOTHING like you."
"Then prove it" Lilith snapped in return, retreating towards the bed. "Going once." She turned away, running two fingers over the bedspread. "Going twice." "Fine" Sam agreed shortly, clenching his fists as tightly as his jaw. Lilith swung back around to face him with a broad grin. "Swell. And by the way, a contract with me will take more than a kiss." She lowered herself onto the bed, patting it seductively with one hand. "A lot more." Sam approached the bed warily. "Don't worry" Lilith assured him, running a hand up his leg. "The dental hygienist in here? She wants it bad." Sam leaned forward, placing one hand on either side of Lilith as she pulled him down onto the bed by his collar.
Then, quick as a flash, Sam shot one hand out to grasp Ruby's knife resting on the nightstand, attempting to stab Lilith with it. But even though he was fast, she was faster, managing to wrestle the knife from his grip and flip him over so that she was now on top, the cold blade pressed against his throat. Before she could do anything further, however, the motel room door was bursting open, nearly flying from its hinges, and Dean was almost literally pushing Chuck inside. The terrified prophet held up his hands and stammered, "I am the prophet, Chuck." Lilith climbed off of Sam, still clutching the knife, her eyes darting from Sam to Chuck to Dean, resting on the latter. "Oh you've got to be joking" she griped, looking sufficiently unamused. The room began to shake violently, dust and debris beginning to rain down from the ceiling, and picture frames beginning to topple down from ledges and walls. "Oh this is no joke" Dean assured her, having to raise his voice to be heard over the ruckus. "You see, Chuck here's got an archangel on his shoulder. You've got about 10 seconds before this room is full of wrath and you're a piece of charcoal. You sure you want to tangle with that?" Sam was sitting up on the bed by this point, watching all this unfold with mixed emotions.
Lilith spared a final searching glance over one shoulder at him before pouring screaming out of her vessel's mouth, fleeing the scene. The shaking immediately died down and the rumbling noise quieted. Sam bit his lip, looking across the room at Dean, unsure of what to say. So he steered clear of emotional topics, like the conversation they'd been having the last time they were in the same room, and instead began filling him in on what Lilith had been there to discuss. Facts seemed to be the best choice here.

"So a deal huh" Dean recapped as they sat side by side in the Impala later on. "That's what she said" Sam confirmed with a nod, staring out of the window. Dean frowned, considering all this. "To call the whole thing off – angels, seals, Lucifer rising, the whole nine?" "That was the gist of it" Sam summarized loosely, turning back to face his brother when he issued a contemplative, "huh..." and drummed his fingers against the steering wheel. "What?" "You didn't think once about taking it" Dean wondered aloud, glancing sideways and then back to the road. Sam stared. "You kidding me? Dude, you spent all day trying to talk me off the Lilith track." Dean shrugged. "I'm just saying..." "She would have found some way to weasel out of it" Sam countered confidently. "And all it would have cost us was our lives." "Yeah I guess you're right" Dean agreed after a minute. Sam returned his focus to the passing scenery. "Anyway, that's not the point" he commented darkly. Dean glanced his way again. "What's the point?" "The point is, she's scared" Sam announced, remembering the way she'd looked at him. "I could see it. Lilith is running." Dean frowned. "Running from what?" "Don't know, don't care" Sam remarked indifferently, his expression darkening. "But she was telling the truth about one thing." "What's that?" Dean activated the windshield wipers as it began to rain, almost like it was mirroring Sam's mood. "She's not gonna survive the apocalypse" he promised with a dangerous glint in his eyes.
"I'll make sure of that."
