"There's no one" Dr. Lee breathed in awe. "They all just..." "Vanished" Sam filled in, remembering the word 'croatoan' on the telephone pole when they'd first rolled into town. He and Dean swapped a look. Had it been like this back in the 16th century? Was a demon...or demonic virus at the very least...the cause of that entire colony being lost? And where was everyone now? Had they simply left to go infect another town or did they indeed just vanish mysteriously? There were lots of questions. And no answers.

"Well...it's been over five hours and your blood is still clean. I don't know how, but I think you dodged a bullet." Dr. Lee announced, pulling her eyes away from the microscope to bestow a small smile on Sam, who was back to sitting on an exam table. His wound had some dried blood around it, but had stopped bleeding a long time ago and was well on its way to scabbing over. "But I was exposed." Dr. Lee gave him an encouraging nod. "Well, I don't know how to explain it, but I'm telling you...when you compare your blood sample to the Tanners...what the hell." She had gone back to look at the other two microscopes set up and now pulled back looking as thoroughly confused as Sam felt. He jumped down off of the table and approached. "What?" Dr. Lee opened her mouth and closed it a few times in wonder before explaining, "the Tanners blood samples...they're clean. No traces of sulfur...no traces they were ever sick to begin with..."
Sam was baffled. And he wasn't the only one. Dean, hovering by the door, looked perhaps the most freaked out he ever had. And that was saying something. In fact, since Dean was usually prone to hiding his weaker emotions like freaking out behind masks of dry humor and sarcasm, it was more than saying something.
It was saying A LOT.
